STATE DEMOCRATS: CARNEY LEADS LIST OF ENDORSEMENTS

The Delaware Democrat Party's executive committee announced its official endorsements Wednesday evening.

Following the recommendations of its local and county committees, the endorsements were for Joseph R. Biden Jr. in his re-election campaign for the U.S. Senate, John C. Carney Jr. for governor, Matthew P. Denn for lieutenant governor and Eugene T. Reed Jr. for insurance commissioner.

The party made no endorsement for the U.S. House of Representatives.

"The primary mission of the Delaware Democratic Party is to recruit, select and elect the strongest candidates possible," John D. Daniello, the state chair, said.

"Our process not only allows, but encourages, the maximum participation of party members from all across our state. In addition, this open endorsement process creates an environment for dialogue between the candidates and party members."

The endorsement process began early this year when candidates were invited to the meetings of local Democratic committees to share their vision for Delaware's future and to answer questions on any issues important to a particular group. All of these meetings were open not only to the committee people, but to all registered Democrats.

Committee members then voted on whether or not to make endorsement recommendations to either the subdivision or the state executive committee. In some instances, the discussions leading up to a vote took place over multiple meetings.

"I have no doubt that with Joe Biden, John Carney, Matt Denn and Gene Reed on our team, Democrats up and down our state will do well on Election Day," Daniello said.
